I knew it, I just knew nothing good was going to come out of having to register for STI. See what I mean about nice, small little companies morphing into giant annoying conglomerates?

ST subscribers to get cheaper online rates

STRAITS TIMES subscribers to the print edition of the newspaper will get a 50-per-cent discount off the subscription rates of The Straits Times Interactive (STI) when the website becomes a subscription service on March 20.

The move, which was in response to reader feedback, means that print subscribers will need to pay only S$36 for a six-month subscription (S$6 a month), instead of S$72.

And those who take up a 12-month subscription rate will pay S$60 (S$5 a month), instead of S$120.

The full rates of $72 and $120 will apply to those who want online-only subscriptions.

The website, at will start accepting online subscriptions on March 11. Those who sign up for subscriptions between that date and March 19 will be given free access from March 20 till their subscriptions kick in on April 1.

This newspaper announced last Friday that it would levy access fees for its 10-year-old website.

I hope nobody subscribes to it and its 10 year old website can close down for all I care.
